Proper fertilizer application is one of the most critical factors in crop yield. Too little and your plants starve; too much and you waste money while risking soil damage and environmental runoff. A dedicated fertilizing machine ensures even, controlled distribution — something hand broadcasting simply cannot achieve.
For smallholder and mid-scale farmers, hand push and backpack fertilizing machines offer the perfect balance of precision, affordability, and ease of use.
The most common type for field crops. The operator pushes the machine along crop rows while fertilizer drops from a hopper through a spreading mechanism onto the soil.
How it works:
- Fertilizer granules are loaded into the red plastic hopper (capacity: 3.7–5 kg per fill)
- As the wheels turn, a rotating spreader plate beneath the hopper distributes fertilizer in an even pattern
- Flow rate is adjustable via a control lever on the handle
Best for: Row crops like corn, wheat, vegetables, and cotton grown in upland fields.
Worn on the operator's back like a backpack sprayer, this machine uses a hand-cranked or battery-powered centrifugal disc to throw fertilizer granules in a wide arc.
How it works:
- The operator carries the white plastic tank (JF20-3 capacity: ~20L) on their back
- A spinning disc at the bottom of the feed tube flings fertilizer outward in a 2–5 meter radius
- The operator walks through the field, covering large areas quickly
Best for: Broadcast fertilizing of rice paddies, pastures, orchards, and large open fields where row precision is not critical.
Battery-powered versions of the hand push spreader. The electric motor drives the spreading mechanism, reducing operator effort.
How it works:
- Same hopper-and-spreader design as manual versions
- A rechargeable battery powers the spreading disc, so the operator only needs to push without cranking
- Typically covers 1–2 acres per charge
Best for: Farmers who need to cover larger areas with less physical effort, or who work in soft soil where pushing resistance is high.
